Health and Safety Advice for Farm Visits

All children under 16 must be supervised by an adult. Whilst a visit to our farm park should be an enjoyable there are some basic hygiene precautions you should take:

  • Wash and dry hands after touching an animal or its surroundings.
  • Don’t eat or drink anything while going round the park or put hands or fingers in your mouth after touching animals. (Adults will need to keep an eye on their children to prevent this).
  • Children MUST NOT be lifted over the barriers into the pens where the animals are contained.
  • Although the animals are contained, in the event you come into contact with droppings – please do not touch and if you do wash and dry hands.
  • Don’t nibble the animal food.
  • Keep any cuts/abrasions covered when visiting the park.
  • Although it is extremely unlikely, if you do experience a nip or a bite wash in soap and water, apply a dressing if required and consult medical advice if necessary.
  • Although our animals are contained in pens, pregnant women should avoid areas where there are ewes lambing (February-April) and should not attempt to handle or feed young lambs as illness or miscarriage may result.

Advice on Handwashing

  • Wash your hands under warm running water using ordinary or liquid soap.
  • Rub your hands (or childs hand) vigorously when washing them. This will help to loosen dirt and germs.
  • Rinse hands well to get all the soap off.
  • Dry hands using paper towels.
  • Antiseptic wipes can be used if handwashing facilities are not available. These aren’t as effective as soap and water.
